Schneider Electric reported Dec. 14 that it’s integrated its EcoStruxure Automation Expert (EAE) software with consultant Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda process control software for sustainable, cost-effective wastewater treatment. Their collaboration and cloud-ready, cyber secure, flexible and scalable architecture is designed to improve sustainability, resilience and process efficiency in water treatment plants via complete lifecycle management, seamless integration with information technology and operational technology services, and enhanced system diagnostics for automation systems.

Earlier this year, Royal HaskoningDHV announced Schneider Electric as the preferred global supplier for its Nereda wastewater treatment solution. As a result of that collaboration, this next-generation technology is designed to improve sustainability, resilience, and process efficiency in treatment plants through complete lifecycle management, seamless integration with information technology and operational   services, and enhanced system diagnostics for automation systems. A cloud-ready, cyber secure, flexible and scalable architecture delivers cost-savings by reducing footprint with simplified but robust architectures, alongside emissions reduction and is future-proofed with AI and machine learning capabilities for continuous improvement.

Based on the IEC61499 standard for interoperability, this integrated solution has been successfully tested and validated through Royal HaskoningDHV’s certification process. Developers, operators and system integrators can improve all aspects of the water treatment process from design and construction to operations and maintenance. It enables treatment plants to realize up to 50% improvement in engineering deployment, 30% optimization on commissioning, and 10% savings on optimized, robust architectures.

“We’re constantly seeking to join forces with innovative and complementary partners,” says Alain Dedieu, president of the water/wastewater division at Schneider Electric. “With Royal HaskoningDHV, we can deliver a future-proof, digital solution for wastewater treatment, providing access to next-generation process controls that combine the best of our automation technologies with Royal HaskoningDHV’s Nereda platform.”

Jelle Langedijk, process engineer at Royal HaskoningDHV, adds that, “Using EcoStruxure Automation Expert will reduce the time spent on integrating and testing control software for Nereda’s installations will reduce significantly. The standardized application makes it straightforward to troubleshoot and adapt processes to customer-specific configurations.”
