Omron moving to South Carolina

March 19, 2024
The company will manufacture motion controllers and drives, machine vision, barcode readers and verification systems at its S.C. facility

To expand production capacity in the Americas, improve lead times, and enhance service, Omron reported Feb. 8 that it’s relocating its current facility in Renton, Wash., to the Atlas at Inland Port Greer industrial park in Greer, S.C. The company will manufacture motion controllers and drives, machine vision, barcode readers and verification systems at its new facility.

"We conducted a thorough search of potential manufacturing locations, and selected a site that can best serve the future needs, competitive pricing and expectations of our valued customers," says Mark Sadie, managing director, Omron Automation Americas.

The relocation will occur during January to May of 2024. Omron also plans to expand production in South Carolina to include some of its highest-demand technologies presently made in other locations worldwide. As part of its expansion, Omron will also establish a proof-of-concept center (PoCC), where customers can see solutions in action, collaborate with experts, and proactively validate solutions.

Omron adds that Spartanburg County, State of South Carolina and One Spartanburg Inc. provided a terrific vision of how Omron fit into the region’s growth initiatives as an automation innovator driving economic and workforce development. Omron partnered with JLL on site selection advisory services, and with Burns & McDonnell for design and construction services. Omron is also partnering with ready SC, part of the SC Technical College System, to recruit and train its new workforce in South Carolina.

In addition, Omron used the Spark Center at Spartanburg Community College to start moving production, and produce and ship product before construction was completed. This eased the transition of Omron’s manufacturing operations to South Carolina.

“Our mission is to provide customers with exceptional service and support to help them achieve success,” adds Sadie. "With this relocation, we’re confident we can continue delivering the highest level of service and support our customers have come to expect from Omron.”
