2011 ACS 11th Control System Cyber Security Conference – Mark Your Calendar

April 22, 2011
Industrial Control Systems (ICS) cyber incidents continue to occur and we continue to learn. Consequently, Applied Control Solutions (ACS) will host the 11th ICS Cyber Security Conference in the Washington DC area October 17-21, 2011. The ICS Cyber Security Conference is an international information sharing conference explicitly focused on securing ICSs. The target audience is ICS and IT security personnel, government regulators, legislators’ staff, Department of Defense (DOD), and academia. Last year, the ACS Conference held the first technical discussions of Stuxnet.
There have already been numerous ICS cyber incidents including major electric outages, shutdowns of nuclear power plants, Smart Grid incidents, water system failures, pipeline failures involving fatalities, and transportation accidents involving fatalities. Lack of adequate ICS cyber security understanding can be critical as many of these ICS cyber incidents would not have been prevented by current IT security policies and practices. In some cases, the incidents were actually caused by inappropriate policies, technologies, or testing. As in past conferences, end-users will share their experiences including actual ICS cyber incidents and there will be demonstrations of ICS cyber vulnerabilities. Even though the Conference focuses on commercial ICSs, there are expected to be unclassified discussions on DOD issues with ICSs. Additionally, sponsors will display their solutions to problems identified at the Conference. In the past, we have had members of Congress and senior regulatory representatives provide keynotes and stay to answer questions. As with previous Conferences, other activities are anticipated in conjunction with the ACS Conference such as NIST providing briefings on the Risk Management Framework and an open meeting of the ISA S67.16 Nuclear Plant Cyber Security committee.
