FieldComm Group Conducts 2016 General Assembly in The Netherlands

Nov. 15, 2016

FieldComm Group conducted its 2016 General Assembly on October 17-21 at STC-Group in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Open to members and invited guests, the event addressed developments and applications for digital automation and intelligent device technology, and discussed the outlook for harmonizing standards for the process automation industry.

As FieldComm Group's second annual global meeting (the organization was founded in 2015 through the combining of the Fieldbus Foundation and HART Communication Foundation), the General Assembly provided an update on FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus, HART®, HART-IP™ and WirelessHART® technologies, as well as Field Device Integration (FDI®). It also included presentations by leading manufacturers and other industrial firms that have installed these solutions in their operations.

A large number of industrial firms from throughout Europe were represented at the conference. The speakers provided valuable information on the outlook for digital transformation in the process industries, particularly solutions helping manufacturers transition from reactive to predictive maintenance and optimize asset management strategies to improve operations and reduce costs. The goal is to use digitally available information from existing, installed field instruments to improve safety, operations, and reliability. Plant floor to executive office real-time access is key to delivering value to the enterprise.”

Masters concluded, "Our 2016 General Assembly highlighted the advantages of FieldComm Group technologies, which are advancing to keep pace with the demands of both automation suppliers and end users. Our FDI technology, in particular, is helping resolve device integration issues by simplifying the process for finding and installing drivers, and requiring adherence to specific product registration requirements for FDI packages. This should reduce the training burden on end users as well.”

In addition to the General Assembly technical discussions and case study presentations, working group meetings offered an opportunity for marketing and technical professionals to meet over multiple days and contribute to the strategic direction of FieldComm Group. Technology Working Groups addressed specification changes, updates and enhancements to make sure FOUNDATION Fieldbus and HART technologies remain robust and continue to meet the ever-changing needs of the automation industry.

The annual FieldComm Group business meeting provided members with an update of the overall state of the organization, including a report on its global activities.
