ABB Process Automation reported Apr. 2 that it’s successfully delivered an integrated scope of automation and digital products for IndianOil Corp.’s nationwide, oil-and-gas pipeline network. Spanning more than 20,000 kilometers across multiple states, this network is vital to supporting India’s energy needs, annually transporting 125 million metric tons of oil and 49 million metric standard cubic meters of gas.

ABB’s solutions will be at the core of supporting IndianOil’s Centralized Pipeline Information Management System (CPIMS). The project included designing, engineering, supplying and commissioning ABB’s Ability SCADAvantage digital platform, which features cybersecurity and disaster recovery systems hosted in the cloud. The scope also included digital solutions for centralized management of Indian Oil’s nationwide pipelines. In addition, ABB is providing a 10-year ABB Care contract to ensure the company’s existing pipelines are unified under the CPIMS, as well as provide long-term service and support for Indian Oil’s pipeline infrastructure.

“Indian Oil envisioned using its CPIMS to address the complexities associated with maintaining and operating of cross-country pipeline network. This project aims to eliminate manual operations and enhance the efficiency, productivity and availability of the pipeline networks,” says Senthil Kumar N., pipelines director at IndianOil. “We value our enduring partnership with ABB that spans more than a decade.”

ABB was awarded the CPIMS project contract in February 2024. Within a year, ABB designed and delivered its integrated solutions for managing the pipeline network that’s now being commissioned.

“With energy demand growing in line with population increases, ABB is committed to supporting global energy security, while making existing energy systems leaner and cleaner,” G. Balaji, head of ABB Energy Industries in India. “We’re proud to partner with IndianOil on the CPIMS project, which marks a leap in pipeline operations’ efficiency, safety, integrity and cybersecurity. Our advanced SCADA and cybersecurity solutions support real-time data monitoring and help protect the critical assets of pipeline networks.”
