In other news at the recent ARC Forum, both veteran and rookie process automation suppliers unveiled an array of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) programs, products and services. These solutions included:
- Telit announced the formation of its Internet of Things (IoT) Factory Solutions business unit, which is centered on the Telit's scalable platform that provides secure, robust, shop-floor, operations technology (OT) access to the top-floor information technology (IT), as well as a connected ecosystem of OEMs, suppliers and customers. Pre-configured for cloud connectivity and integration via Telit's IoT Portal, the platform provides a quick path to the industrial IoT (IIoT).
- Inductive Automation and Cirrus Link Solutions announced the upcoming release of three Cirrus Link MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) modules for Inductive's database-centric, web-deployed, cross-platform Ignition software for HMI, SCADA and IIoT applications. MQTT is a simple, lightweight, publish/subscribe messaging protocol. The new modules, MQTT Engine, MQTT Injector and MQTT Distributor, are the result of Cirrus Link and Inductive's partnership, and are designed to help users accelerate their ability to leverage IIoT.
- ABB described how it delivers the "Internet of Things, Services and People" (IoTSP) to help users get the most performance out of existing applications. It achieves this by integrating multiple intelligent infrastructure, engineering, services, software and other systems into one central control room that's ergonomically designed for optimal performance. This strategy joins ABB and its users' operations centers and their remote facilities for triangle-integrated data collection, operations, collaboration and optimization.
- Yokogawa Electric Corp. announced the establishment of its Industrial Knowledge business unit that will accelerate its expansion into asset-intensive industries by providing advanced, cloud-based solutions. To serve as a platform for developing its new unit, Yokogawa acquired cloud-based, site-connected, data-sharing-as-a-service (DaaS) provider Industrial Evolution Inc. in December 2015.
- Bentley reported on its recently released release AssetWise APM, Version 7.4, software that helps asset managers comply with API 580, risk-based inspection guidelines, and provides enhanced capabilities for integrity management and process safety. AssetWise APM 7.4 also complies with SIL 1 requirements for IEC 61508 P3; has new KPIs and a sidebar dashboard to track inspection compliance; uses interactive asset diagrams to link with design, specification, inspection and compliance information from the asset record; allows measurement devices to link to predictive technology devices; and is recertified to the latest release of SAP EAM on SAP PI 7.1.9 software.
- Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) launched its new Honeywell Pulse app to give plant managers immediate notifications and real-time plant performance data and analytics directly on their smart phones. Honeywell Pulse provides: timely notifications and customizable alerts; alerts from multiple data sources including Honeywell DynAMo alarm management software and OPC-compliant historians like Uniformance process history database (PHD); connectivity tools to drive collaboration, such as threaded conversations to help resolve issues; and forward, share and receive functions for critical alarms to increase situational awareness.
