APC9 @IChemE #pauto Keynote Address

Sept. 1, 2011

I'll be speaking in a couple of weeks at APC9 in York, England. This is the first time they've had keynote speakers, so I am told, and since another major keynote is by Charlie Cutler, I'm honored to be in good company.

The talk I'm going to give is entitled "Careful. We Don't Want to Learn From This." It is an outgrowth of several editorials I've written this year about process safety, EHS, industrial control security, and human nature.

I don't intend it to be fun. I'm hoping that it will provoke considerable reflection on the state of safety and security in the process industries, and why it doesn't seem to be getting better. And, perhaps stimulate some action toward a remedy before many more workers are killed or injured.

If you'll be in England on the 20-21 of September, stop in.
