Experts estimate 40 percent of this year's U.S. corn crop will be used for ethanol, driven in part by subsidies that would be better spent on developing other forms of renewable energy. The emphasis on corn has decreased wheat acreage, driving the prices of both grain commodities upward even while worldwide demand rises and supplies decrease.
