Stopped by to see Russ Agrusa at Iconics' stand at Messe Nuremberg's SPS/IPC/DRIVES. Agrusa recently took in a minority investment from Mitsubishi, and was really excited to show me what some of the cool stuff they were doing was.

The biggest coolest stuff was the Plant Cockpit project. Funded by the EU, this is a public/private/academic consortium of the kind that we in the USA have so much trouble producing. The lead partner is SAP, and the purpose of the consortium is to generate methdology for an open standards approach to bidirectional realtime data transfer from the plant floor to the business layer of the enterprise, and back again. It is heavily funded, and information can be found at http://www.plantcockpit.eu.

As part of the project, Iconics' Vojtech Kresl and Kai Ferdinandt are working on making Iconics' dashboards visible "on any glass," as Agrusa referred to the collection of smart phones and tablets they were showing the same software running on. I have to say that what I saw was very very cool, and will extend the ability to control processes and production lines directly with business intelligence a whole lot easier to do.

Nice.
