Many people working in process automation today are aware of Béla Lipták as the Grand Old Man of control systems engineering, and the Editor of his Instrument Engineers' Handbook, 4th Edition.
But as we discussed yesterday, 50 years ago, young firebrand engineer Lipták was literally in the forefront of the daring rebellion of the populace of Hungary against Soviet oppression and occupation. "Did you know that we knocked out 2OO Soviet tanks in 3 days," Béla writes, "more than we lost in Iraq in 3 years? Of course, we also lost 3 percent ot our population, the equivalent of 9 million Americans..." Béla wrote a memoir, A Testament of Revolution, much of which can be read online. I recommend it, to show what an individual can do, and what the price of freedom can be.
