Update on North Sea Gas Leak

April 2, 2012
Well, things could be worse, but the leaking gas near the Elgin platform in the North Sea is costing Total, SA, $1.5 million dollars a day. And it could be months before the rig can be reopened. Even though, thankfully, there have been no casualties, this is another object lesson in the dangers of deep-water drilling. I'm not saying we should stop doing it, but I have to wonder if the risks are really worth it in the long run.
