The New Sampling Sensor Initiative (NeSSi) is the hot topic in process analyzer circle today. Begun as an initiative to simplify the tasks and reduce the overall costs associated with engineering, installing and maintaining chemical process analytical systems, NeSSI offers a modular approach for assembling sample conditioning systems that can cut the size of a process system dramatically. But users need education on the benefits of NeSSi before they’ll jump in with both feet. Enter the process analyzer vendors.
According to Clive Walker, petroleum analyzer product manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific, “Expectations for process analyzers continue to change drastically. Today customers require solutions that encompass reliable technology applied to the job at hand. In addition, cost of ownership has overtaken capital outlay as a benchmark. The solution has to be low on consumables and easy to support with cost-effective preventative maintenance. Suppliers also need increasing flexibility at the front end and back end to be able to interface into the process line and DCS protocol with minimum cost and inconvenience to the customer. Most of all, the customer must have confidence in the solution.”

TSA-100 process total sulfur analyzer is engineered for insusceptibility to component cross-interference. It can provide total sulfur measurements even when interfering compounds, such as H2S, SO2 and mercaptans, are all present in the same sample. It can measure total sulfur in a variety of petroleum and refinery hydrocarbon gas and liquid streams (e.g. crude oil, gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, kerosene and natural gas). Concentrations range can vary from 0-5 ppm to 0-10,000 ppm, and the instrument has auto-switching between multi-streams.

Model 1056 multi-parameter analyzer for industrial liquid analytical applications now includes turbidity measurement, flow measurement, alarm relays with timers, universal 85-265 Vac 50/60 Hz and 20-30 Vdc power supply options, 4-20 mA signal input from an external device, 4-electrode contacting conductivity sensor support and Chinese language menus. The instrument is easy to set up with Quick-start screens that appear the first time the instrument is powered up.
RHB-CAC1S2 compressed air dewpoint monitor is fully NIST-traceable and uses a chilled mirror sensor to deliver drift-free measurements without regular calibrations or sensor replacement. The aluminum NEMA 12 (IP55) enclosure houses the sensor and control circuitry, including flow control, and is wall-mounted. The monitor also offers a programmable automatic balance control cycle that corrects for the light-reducing effects of mirror contaminates and allows for continuous monitoring.
Yokogawa Corp. of America
NX70000 optical phase-modulation analyzer provides differential constellation and demodulated waveform display in real-time and same-time analysis. Phase distribution measurements are provided as averaged, histogram and standard deviation, while the demodulated waveform adds Q-factor measurement. These measurements quickly identify the root cause of waveform degradation which allows adjustments for best optical performance. The accepted wavelength range is 1530 nm to 1625 nm with a signal bit rate range of 39.8 Gbps to -46 Gbps.
H2S analyzer helps natural gas processors, pipelines and refineries measure trace hydrocarbon sulfide in mixed hydrocarbon gases with no light source aging, no carrier gas, no lead tape and no ongoing recalibration. The analyzer is available in several ranges including 0 ppmv to 20 ppmv, 0 ppmv to 300 ppmv, 0 ppmv to 1000 ppmv and percent level. Two measurements can be combined for inlet and outlet monitoring on a sweetener or dehydrator, or for measuring moisture and hydrogen sulfide or moisture and carbon dioxide in one stream.

SOLA Flare is a total sulfur analyzer system designed for online measurement and monitoring of flare feed gas, giving users the ability to pinpoint in real-time when an unscheduled flare event starts and when it ends for greater regulatory compliance. The system is comprised of two analyzers, with one analyzer used to measure the low range and one to measure the high range.
HUMICAP humidity and temperature transmitter Series now includes a data-logging option, Chinese as a new user interface language, the next generation HUMICAP 180R sensor and a USB connection cable for computers. The data-logging module has an enhanced memory that can store data of three measured parameters. When logging is fixed at 10-second intervals, data can be stored for as long as 4 years and 5 months.
M-110P Microfluidizer processor, a bench-top lab machine that requires no compressed air or cooling water for hydraulics, operates at up to 30,000 psi. It allows flow rates between 110 ml/min and 155 ml/min, depending on process pressure. This flow rate enables the processing of pharmaceutical formulations, fine chemicals and biological material ranging from simple oil-in-water emulsions to immiscible solids-in-liquid suspensions. The analyzer requires a standard 20 amp, single-phase electrical outlet and can be incorporated into any lab setting.
