At the 2011 Siemens Automation Summit in Orlando, we jumped straight in. Dennis Inverso, from DuPont, conducted a welcome, organized a safety moment and then began to talk about the relationship between DuPont and Siemens since 1990. In 2006, DuPont's DCS engineering team recommended that Siemens had the best offering globally, and was the best in connectivity between drives, PLCs and DCS. They concluded that Siemens had the best batch strategy, best continuous strategy and so DuPont entered into a 5-year agreement with Siemens to be one of the two (Honeywell is the other) DCS suppliers and one of the two PLC suppliers (Rockwell is the other) with Aspentech as the Management Information System provider. This agreement is now being renewed.

Inverso presented some lessons learned. Migration has not been as swift as expected, and not everybody at DuPont is expected to conform to the agreement.

Inverso was upbeat over all and said that they were looking forward to what DuPont and Siemens can do together in the next 5 years.
