SCADA Yokogawa style

One of the cool things at the Tech Fair is an illustration that Yokogawa isn't just a field instrument company that also makes one of the best "monolithic" DCS systems around. I was standing in the middle of the room when a little yellow and blue car went screaming past my ankles...it was a bird, it was a plane...no it was SCADABOT.[img_assist|nid=2911|title=Closeup of SCADABOT's "brain"|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=427|height=320]

SCADABOT is designed to show off the capabilities of the Stardom RTU/PLC. Yokogawa, you see, also makes a very sophisticated SCADA system that is used in pipeline control, water, wastewater, and even utility SCADA. Of course, they've been very careful to not tell very many people in North America about this capability...hence the SCADABOT. I snapped some pictures of the little remote controlled car. It has video eyes, and is directed through the wireless LAN they set up with the Stardom RTU.[img_assist|nid=2910|title=SCADABOT|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=427|height=320]

Here are some snaps I took of the SCADABOT, it's Stardom "brains" and the software that controls both the video and the movement of the robot itself. Yokogawa engineer Matthew Gen put the little bot through its paces for me. It is such a simple way to demonstrate the power and sophistication of the Stardom remote...like many marketing devices, it is simple and effective. According to Con Lau, YCA's director of marketing, the SCADABOT will probably be joining the cast and crew of the big 18-wheeler van that Yokogawa has kitted out as a mobile demo center.[img_assist|nid=2912|title=Stardom SCADABOT control software|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=427|height=320]
