From Bob Sherman, ISA Fellow, analysis expert and all around good guy, the obituary for Ken Konrad, one of the leaders and stalwarts in ISA's Analysis Division and and ISA Fellow:
KENNETH KARLETON KONRAD passed away January 2, 2009. Born December 24, 1932 in San Antonio, TX and raised on the McFadden Ranch and in Victoria, TX. After graduation from Patti Welder High School, he served in the U. S. Navy before completing a degree in Physics at Texas A & I University, Kingsville. He began his career with Union Carbide in the Special Instruments Division as a Development Engineer before becoming Director of Marketing at Bendix Corp. Environmental and Process Instruments Division in Lewisburg, WV. He continued his career as General Manager of Honeywell's Process Analyzer Center in Houston, TX. In 1972 Ken formed both Intek Corp. and Fluid Data Inc. Ken continued as President of Intek Corp. until his death. He achieved the rank of Fellow and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Analysis Division of the instrument society. Ken served on several committees at his church and was an active member of the Exchange Club of Quail Valley, the community he loved and lived in since 1971. He is preceded in death by his mother, Esther Bickford Konrad and his father, Valentine Theodore Konrad. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Laura Stone Konrad, his daughter, Kimberly Konrad Wilkerson and her husband, Kirk, grandson Kristopher Wilkerson, granddaughter Kali Kay Wilkerson Duderstadt and husband, Demishan and a great granddaughter, Peyton Marley Duderstadt, his brother, Valentine "Skip" Konrad, and Dee Eastham. Service will be held at First United Methodist Church Missouri City, 3900 Lexington Blvd., Missouri City, TX 77459 on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with burial following in Tivoli, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to First United Methodist Church Missouri City or the Presbyterian Church of Tivoli Texas.
