Nov. 16, 2020
Survey respondents were asked to gauge the degree of OT cybersecurity risk for several potential threats

Eighty-five percent of respondent organizations aren't highly prepared for an operations technology (OT) cyber-attack, according to a new survey by PAS Global LLC released on Oct. 26. Findings from its survey were also presented and discussed at its OptICS 2020 online event on Oct. 27-28.

Survey respondents were asked to gauge the degree of OT cybersecurity risk for several potential threats. Human error topped the list as the highest risk area. It was followed by other risk areas, including nation states, digital transformation, remote work, criminal activity and internal malicious actors.

Other survey highlights include:

  • Only 12% of respondents say OT cybersecurity risk is low;
  • 37% experienced an OT cybersecurity incident in the last year or do not know if they have;
  • 85% reported an inadequate OT asset inventory;
  • 38% are taking an ad hoc or reactive approach to OT vulneraility management; and
  • Only 27% are taking a proactive approach to OT vulnerability management based on business risk.
