Newtown, Conn. October 29 TÜVRheinland, authorized by the ZigBee Alliance to provide ZigBee testing, has released its customizable Automizer Test System, designed to test products that meet the ZigBee Smart Energy Public Application Profile. The system automates compliance testing in nearly half the time as in manual testing.
TÜVRheinland developed the Automizer to streamline ZigBee compliance testing, recently completing a three-month beta-testing period with three Gold Units. The company designed the Automizer to test the compliance of specific ZigBee Smart Energy products including in-home displays, smart energy thermostats and smart meters.
The ZigBee Automizer fully streamlines the testing process, said David Surber, VP of Engineering at TÜVRheinland. The system allows us to cut the required testing time almost in half, a significant savings for our clients. This in turn gives our clients more time for trouble shooting in our labs, solving any issues in parallel to the certification testing.
Through a sophisticated software package design, the Automizer eliminates the need to manually perform ZigBee Smart Energy testing in which the tester cuts and pastes together command scripts. With extreme efficiency, the PC-based Automizer instead loads whole clusters of scripts simultaneously into the computer a considerable time savings for the product tester and activates the correct script sequences throughout the testing process. The Automizer records the final test results into an easily accessible test report format using the MS Excel spreadsheet.
A licensed copy of the Automizer system is available free of charge to clients wishing to perform their own testing for development purposes. Currently, TÜV Rheinland Group laboratories in Pleasanton, Calif., and Taiwan are using the test system to guide clients from the USA, Europe and Asia through all necessary ZigBee qualification programs for fast and smooth product market integration.
