Safety drive combines wheel, gearbox, motor, safety encoder and drive
ez-Wheel Safety Wheel Drive (SWD) simplifies safe payload mobility with a compact, maintenance-free, all-in-one solution that combines a wheel, gearbox, motor, safety encoder and safety drive, reduces component count by 50%, and streamlines powered motion’s integration into any industrial, mobile platform. Its modular architecture gives it the flexibility to be scaled as needed, which reduces engineering time and simplifies certifications.
ez-Wheel is available in a light/medium SWD 125 model or a heavy-duty SWD 150 model, both with a load-supporting, cast-iron frame. A robust, shockproof housing, rated IP66 protects internal electronics, and ensures it’s adaptable. For each model, two gear ratios are available, each with or without a parking brake. Payload ratings include: SWD 125 supports a 250 kg vertical load and targets applications up to a ton, and SWD 150 supports a 700 kg vertical load and targets applications above a ton.
Each SWD is networked for 24 VDC power, safe input/output (I/O) signals, CANopen, USB and Ethernet (coming soon) communications, and brake functions. This provides quick, serviceable, plug-and-cord connections between ez-Wheel and other external components. LEDs onboard the SWD clearly indicate CAN and motor status.
ez-Wheel’s focus on safety ensures its host application’s compliance with ISO 3691-4 international standard for AGV/AMR safety. When integrated with other safety devices, such as Idec’s SE2L laser scanners or bumper/edge switches, each SWD can provide safe brake control (SBC), safely limited speed (SLS) and safe direction with a SIL2/PLd rating. A SIL3/PLe safe motor disconnection (STO) is also integrated.
