FieldComm Group is the home of processĀ automation standards. We’re solelyĀ focused on the global process automation industry. We’re growing every year and we’reĀ working hand in hand with our partner membersĀ to develop, validate and maintain the technologiesĀ you’ve come to rely on—and bringĀ them into the future as well.

Meanwhile, it’s critical thatĀ we consider the installed base ofĀ over 50 million field devices asĀ we pursue the process industry’sĀ digital transformation agenda.Ā Nobody’s ripping out field devicesĀ to digitally transform their plants.Ā Rather, FieldComm Group isĀ preparing the new technologiesĀ that can bring higher performanceĀ to that massive installed base, toĀ be complementary and backwardĀ compatible. The new field devices of today canĀ communicate in much the same manner as thatĀ installed base, leveraging the same informationĀ models and crossing the integration chasmĀ between the worlds of OT and IT.

FieldComm has also evolved its perspectiveĀ on digitalization. We started out developingĀ digital device protocols but have since extendedĀ our scope into common data standards such as FDI. FDI technology delivers instrumentĀ data to host systems, to cloud and mobile applications,Ā in a common way. It configures andĀ manages all those assets with the same package—regardless of supplier, regardless of protocol.Ā It is truly the integration standard for ourĀ industry. PA-DIM takes that goal a step further,Ā mapping all that data into a common formatĀ across all protocols, and all manufacturers in aĀ machine-readable way so that advanced analyticsĀ can reveal insights across diverse fleets ofĀ instruments and assets.

A digital revolution is upon us, but we needĀ a planned and stepwise way to proceed. We’veĀ evolved before, from pneumatics to electronicsĀ to hybrid analog/digital devices with the HARTĀ protocol. And now, we’re developingĀ solutions for the future.Ā We’ll continue to liberate HARTĀ data still stranded in existingĀ devices, even as we transform itĀ into PA-DIM’s standard informationĀ model. PA-DIM’s value hasĀ been widely recognized acrossĀ industry and every day is beingĀ integrated into more and moreĀ solutions.

We’re also accelerating HARTĀ to 10-Mbps speed with Ethernet-APL. By combining the two, we have theĀ performance needed to dramatically increase theĀ value of field device data for the future whileĀ maintaining and leveraging the familiarity andĀ interoperability that we’ve come to expect withĀ HART. We’re also looking further into the future,Ā toward new developments like field devicesĀ that don’t even need a protocol.

It’s truly an exciting time for the process automationĀ industry, and at FieldComm Group we’reĀ excited to help the supplier community bringĀ more value and performance to the field devicesĀ the user community already owns—as well as theĀ new ones they’ll rely on in the future.
