On June 2, Pepperl+Fuchs broke ground on its new U.S. distribution and engineering center in Katy, Texas, outside Houston. The new, 100,000-square-foot US Distribution Center (USDC) represents a $25 million investment for the leading manufacturer of process and factory automation systems and components, and will bring some 100 jobs to the area.

The facility, which is five times larger than the company’s current Houston-area presence, is an important step forward in Pepperl+Fuchs’ strategy to deliver both stock and custom solutions more quickly and efficiently to its clients around the world, said President/CEO Gunther Kegel (leaning on shovel in photo) in his welcoming remarks to customers, partners and area civic leaders gathered for the celebration.

Indeed, the new facility will combine both highly automated warehousing and shipping for efficient delivery of stock products to its customers in the Americas, as well as an expanded Solutions Engineering Center where engineers will design, build and certify customized solutions for process automation in hazardous locations such as oil refineries, pharmaceutical facilities and other manufacturing plants.

One of the unique aspects of the new USDC is that it will actually showcase Pepperl+Fuchs sensors at work. The highly complex AS/RS (automated storage/automated retrieval) systems will be controlled predominantly by the company’s own sensor technologies.
