Industrial network security

Nov. 22, 2004
This "special to the web" book, available from ISA.org, provides an introduction to the field of industrial network security and a tutorial on the basics of IT cybersecurity, physical security and personnel security.

T

he emerging field of Industrial Network Security came to the forefront after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Whether you talk about process control systems for chemical plants and refineries, SCADA networks for utilities like electric, natural gas, water and wastewater, or factory automation systems for discrete manufacturing, all these areas need protection from hackers, disgruntled employees, and even cyberterrorists.

This easy-to-read book, available from the ISA, provides an introduction to the field of Industrial Network Security and as an overview leverages the technical information ISA has developed in its short courses and conferences. It includes a brief tutorial on the basics of IT cybersecurity for the uninitiated. The book also takes a look at the many different organizations contributing to this area. Although most of industrial network security is cyber in nature, it includes summaries of physical and personnel security to round out this new field.
