Chemical Safety Standards May Be Overhauled

Senate Bill 1009, entitled the Chemical Safety Improvement Act, was introduced by Senators David Vitter (R-La.) and the late Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) to reform existing chemical safety legislation.

Senators David Vitter (R-La.) and the late Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) in May introduced the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA), later designated S. 1009. CSIA is a new approach to Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) reform that industry stakeholders may view favorably when compared to prior legislative efforts. Highlights of the draft bill are here.

There are many issues that could derail the bill, but at least the government is making a legitimate effort that will please many industry stakeholders.
