Honeywell to design integrated control system for Australian LNG plant
Perth, Western Australia, January 10 Honeywell announced a contract to provide the integrated control system for Woodsides new Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) Project in Western Australia. The project, based on Woodsides Pluto gas field north west of Karratha, is Western Australias first new LNG plant in more than 20 years. It is expected to produce 4.3 million tons of LNG per year.
The Pluto LNG Project includes sub-sea wells, an offshore, unmanned wellhead platform, a 180-kilometer trunk line, an onshore LNG plant and associated infrastructure located near Karratha. Honeywell will provide its Experion Process Knowledge System R300, as well as advanced process control and operator training systems. Experion will streamline production by controlling all process operations and providing data from subsystems throughout the facility to aid operator decision making. Honeywell will also specify, procure, engineer and integrate the emergency shutdown and fire and gas systems. The integrated system will help mitigate safety risks and improve operational efficiency.
The control system project is scheduled for completion in 2009 and production is expected to commence in late 2010.
"We are delighted to have been selected by Woodside for the Pluto LNG Project, said Tony Cosgrove, regional general manager for Honeywell Process Solutions Australia. Honeywell has worked closely with Woodside on successive projects to implement a suite of best-in-class LNG technology solutions.
Honeywells UniSim Operator Training Simulator will be implemented to provide a life-cycle simulation solution. UniSim allows process design verification and operator training to commence prior to start-up, enabling faster time to first LNG shipments while improving safety.
Honeywell will integrate the entire control system through Experion, including Honeywells Field Device Manager and Asset Manager applications to help operators efficiently monitor and diagnose field devices and Honeywells Uniformance PHD data historian for efficient and effective data analysis. Honeywell also will provide consulting services and applications to assist operators sort and prioritize system alarms, thereby preventing potential incidents and unexpected downtime.
