oore Industries-International, Inc. has earned the San Fernando Valley Engineers’ Council Distinguished Engineering Project Achievement Award for exceptional commitment to safety and successful completion of IEC 61508 certification.

The award recognizes organizations that have completed engineering projects which, because of their scope or unique character, are outstanding and deserving of merit. Joseph Hage, vice president of engineering and Moore Industries’ IEC 61508 Safety Team leader, accepted this award on behalf of the team at the Engineers’ Council 50th anniversary National Engineers Week honors and awards banquet last month at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, Calif.

IEC 61508 is a process-based standard that applies to the entire life cycle of a product, from conception and design stages, through its manufacturing, application, maintenance, and ultimately final decommissioning. Moore Industries is the first US company to successfully obtain IEC 61508 certification to design and manufacture process instrumentation hardware for safety related applications and has used this achievement as a driving force to educate industry leaders, government bodies, manufacturers, end users, system integrators and other entities on the importance of safety. In addition, Moore Industries is a founding member of an IEC 61508 consortium in Europe.
