Remember the nuclear power industry?

Even many greens have come around to the fact that if we're going to continue operating our infrastructure, we have to re-include nuclear power as a significant option. Right now, we power the United States and Canada with coal and oil and natural gas. France, Japan, and others have very high concentrations of nuclear power stations, and they haven't hurt anybody. This is going to happen. It is only a matter of time. But how are we going to serve the nuclear infrastructure? There is only one service center for control valves and spares in North America...and that's not enough. Good on Emerson, though, for not giving up on this industry. Read the release: EMERSON'S SERVICE CENTER RE-APPROVED BY NUPIC TO SUPPLY CONTROL VALVES AND PARTS TO THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY Continues as the only such center in North America serving this industryAUSTIN, TX (January 14, 2008) - Emerson Process Management today announced re-approval of the company's Instrument & Valve Services Columbia, SC, Service Center, as a supplier to nuclear power plants throughout the US and Canada.  Approved products and services from this site are safety-related (non-ASME code) control valves, valve parts, Emerson's FlowScannerâ„¢ 6000 valve diagnostic system, FlowScanner calibration, and FlowScanner repairs. The NUPIC (Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee) Audit Report, issued on December 6, 2007, followed a comprehensive audit of the facility by a team of nuclear industry experts. This approval provides nuclear plant procurement personnel the assurance that Emerson's Columbia Service Center adheres to quality programs in compliance with 10CFR50 Appendix B and Part 21 of the US Regulatory Commission (NRC) 18 Point Quality Assurance Criteria for Nuclear Power Plants and Fuel Reprocessing Plants.   The FlowScanner 6000 valve diagnostic system provides the most accurate and safest way to diagnose control valves. This exceptional diagnostic tool acquires valve data through very accurate travel sensors, which is analyzed and viewed on laptop or tablet PC for plant personnel to use in maintaining optimum control valve performance.According to Denny Cahill, vice president and general manager of Emerson's Instrument & Valve Services business, "The Columbia Service Center is uniquely staffed with trained personnel capable of providing safety-related valves and parts meeting nuclear power industry requirements on short notice.  This is the only instrument & valve services center in North America dedicated to meeting short-lead-time delivery needs of non-code safety-related valves, parts, and services to this industry."The Columbia Service Center also holds "R" Stamp certification from the National Board of Pressure Vessel Inspectors, allowing personnel from Columbia to make field repairs and alterations on Contek "S" Stamp desuperheaters at any customer location in the US.  In addition, the Service Center holds "NR" Stamp certification, which qualifies site personnel to complete materials repairs to ASME Section III Code Pressure Boundary Parts.  The Columbia Service Center also holds an ASME NPT Certificate which enables this location to provide short lead time ASME code replacement parts.Emerson is the largest North American supplier of instrument & valve services, related repairs, parts, and other services, with 54 locations across the US, Canada, and Mexico.  Expert personnel are dedicated to help customers avoid unplanned costs and unscheduled maintenance through comprehensive startup, diagnostic, repair, and maintenance services. All technicians are factory-trained and receive frequent refresher programs and renewal certifications, enabling them to deliver only the highest quality of services to every customer.
