Peter Martin of Invensys was a last minute keynote because the originally scheduled keynoter was called to a meeting at the White House. Martin talked about "The Future of Automation" and said, "When they tell you you're trying to bite off too much of a project they say that you are trying to solve world hunger. In the automation industries, we CAN solve world hunger." He went on to point out that most of the issues besetting the world are amenable to change and optimization using control theory, if we want to.
