High-Purity Water System Incorporates ORP Measurement to
Minimize Corrosion

Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced it has added oxidation reduction potential (ORP) measurement – a key parameter for minimizing corrosion in power plant equipment such as turbines and piping – to its HPW7000 High-Purity Water Measurement System, which should enable plants to better maintain critical equipment, reduce capital expenses and lower chemical usage.

The HPW7000 is widely used in applications such as boiler feedwater systems in municipal utilities and large industrial plants that produce electricity from on-site power plants. Its specially designed flow chamber and electrode mounting has been used for more than 10 years to simplify installation and calibration while providing highly accurate pH level readings. Adding the ORP electrode gives plant chemists, plant managers, maintenance engineers and safety and reliability engineers a more-accurate picture of oxidation levels in high-purity water systems where the conductivity of the water samples is less than 10 microsiemens per centimeter (uS/cm).

“Reliably measuring ORP levels in these applications has historically been complicated, but it’s a worthwhile investment if plants can use the data to maintain optimal reagent levels in the feedwater and thus reduce corrosion,” said Thomas Griffiths, global product marketing manager. “Incorporating ORP technology into the HPW7000’s easy-to-use design will ultimately minimize maintenance requirements and improve plant uptime.”
