Switch uses Ethernet and HART-IP to access Ethernet-APL devices

Aug. 7, 2024

Ethernet-APL 3 Channel Switch (APL-SW-3) lets transmitter suppliers incorporate Ethernet Advanced physical Layer (APL) into their devices, which is less costly and complex than integrating intrinsically safe (IS) switches with many APL channels. APL-SW-3 has a power supply connection, three Ethernet-APL channels and an RJ-45 Ethernet connector. It uses a standard, 24 VDC power supply.

Users simply connect APL devices to the switch, connect the switch to the Ethernet network, and employ HART-IP to access APL devices. A web browser is used to configure the switch’s IP address and connect to the Ethernet network. Other configuration, customization and status data is available through the browser.

The host system uses HART-IP protocol to configure and monitor APL transmitters connected to the switch via Ethernet. Any HART-IP compliant host, such as ProComSol’s DevCom apps, can access the APL transmitter via the switch’s Ethernet connection. No host software development is required.
