Emerson leaders Train, Buzbee to address Exchange delegates

Sept. 26, 2017
The executive leadership of Emerson Automation Solutions will discuss developments since the April acquisition of Pentair’s Valve & Controls business for $3.15 billion

Mike Train, executive president, has led Emerson Automation Solutions since the new structure was first announced in May 2016.

Following the traditional welcome address from the 2017 Emerson Global Users Exchange Chairman Rob Sentz of 3M, attendees of the opening keynote session will hear from the executive leadership of Emerson Automation Solutions, including Mike Train, executive president, and Terry Buzbee, group president, final control.

Among the new developments since Exchange 2016 is Emerson’s acquisition in April of Pentair’s Valve & Controls business for $3.15 billion. “Pentair’s Valves & Controls business fits extremely well with Emerson’s existing portfolio of Fisher control valves and regulators and Bettis actuators,” said Train at the time of the acquisition. “The addition of market leading product brands such as Anderson Greenwood, Vanessa and Keystone creates the most comprehensive global valve business. Emerson’s final control portfolio now includes control valves, pressure relief, butterfly, gate, globe, ball and check valves, and an extensive global network of more than 200 service centers. The combination of these two leading businesses will allow us to better support and help customers select the right product and maintain it for the life of the asset.”

“This acquisition enables us to continue to grow our global footprint in automation and expand our leadership position in key served markets,” said Emerson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David N. Farr.

Headquartered in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, the Valves & Controls business is a leading provider of valve solutions and services with nearly 7,500 employees around the world. The business is in the process of being integrated into Emerson’s Automation Solutions platform. And as leader of the Emerson final control business, Terry D. Buzbee is responsible for that integration. Buzbee began his career as a sales engineer for Fisher Controls in 1977. He took on increasing responsibility over the years, becoming president of Emerson’s Fisher business unit in 1994, and then gaining responsibility for the Bettis business in 2003 and Virgo in 2013.

Terry Buzbee, group president, final control, leads Emerson Automation Solutions’ valve and regulator businesses, including the Pentair Valves & Controls business acquired earlier this year.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering management and has held leadership roles in the Valve Manufacturers Association, Construction Industry Institute, Martha Ellen Tye Foundation, Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce and Marshalltown Business Education Alliance. He was inducted into the Iowa Business Hall of Fame in December, 2013.

As executive president, Michael H. Train leads the Automation Solutions business of Emerson. Train began his career with Emerson in 1991 as an international planner, then took on additional responsibilities in a number of executive posts that included serving as president of Emerson Japan and Korea, vice president of corporate planning, president of Emerson Process Management Asia Pacific, and president of Emerson’s Rosemount business. He was most recently president of global sales for Emerson Process Management. Train earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from General Motors Institute and an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He currently serves on the management school’s advisory council and was a 2008 Eisenhower Fellowship recipient.
