"DeltaV Connect" Eases Control System Migration

Norpac Controls Tells How the Company's Multiphase Migration to Emerson's DeltaV Platform Was Eased by Emerson's "DeltaV Connect" Offering

People choose to migrate their control systems for many different reasons. And for Catalyst Paper's Steward McLeod, the reasons were several—including the urgent need to replace failing communication equipment, the medium-term desire to implement advanced control strategies and the ultimate goal of replacing an older control platform.

Tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2:15 pm in Room 201 at the 2010 Emerson Global Users Exchange, McLeod, together with Carl Sheehan of Norpac Controls and Chris King of Emerson, will tell the story of how the company's multiphase migration to Emerson's DeltaV platform was eased by Emerson's "DeltaV Connect" offering.

"The Emerson 'DeltaV Connect' transition philosophy," Sheehan says, "allows control continuation on the older legacy platform while providing state-of-the-art technologies to build on: open platforms, digital busses, easy scalability, self-diagnosing instruments and embedded advanced control.

"We also wanted to achieve a low engineering, installation and start-up cost, with ongoing operation and maintenance savings," said Sheehan. "We wanted a foundation for modernization to PlantWeb and DeltaV."
